Public "DropBox"

Public DropBox

It may happen that you need to send large files (data, images, movies) to your supervisor or industrial sponsor. Email is the obvious first answer. However, files larger than a few megabytes are likely to fill up their inbox, and files larger than 10MB may be rejected by mail-servers.

You can therefore make use of ZendTo, a public DropBox for CSC/LSC users. Using this, you can upload your file(s) to a central CSC/LSC server, and automatically notify the recipient(s) that there are files waiting for them. To start using ZendTo, go to https://www-internal.lsc.phy.cam.ac.uk/files/ and log in using your CSC/LSC network password. You can then upload files to be distributed to other people, who may or may not have CSC/LSC accounts. You can also request that other people send you files in the same way, although you have to initiate the request. You will be notified when your intended recipient has picked up the file(s) or dropped off file(s) for your use.

The recipient will be sent an e-mail with a link and userID/password to enable them to download the file(s). Since these are sent in clear-text over the internet, the whole system is only as secure as standard e-mail. If you need guaranteed security higher than this, you should make other arrangements.
